The Mission Committee works to support our three American Baptist ministries: National, International, and Retired Ministers & Missionaries. We also promote and support various missions throughout the year. The list is long , but we must emphasize our ministry to Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Lebanon, under the direction of Mary Wells, who works with Social Services in town.We presently have six active members but are always looking for more people with an interest in missions to join our group. The committee meets three or four times a year after worship. If you would like more information, call Priscilla Barton, tel.# 860-537-1788 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
This ministry lends our support to persecuted Chinese Christians who share their faith in spite of danger of imprisonment and death.
"None of us chooses where we are born. But we get to choose what we do with the ways God has blessed us." First Baptist Church of Lebanon participates in Compassion International, a Christian child development and child advocacy ministry powered by more than one million sponsors. Compassion works in partnership with local churches in 25 developing countries that are equipped through sponsors to implement programs providing for the child's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Our First Baptist Church sponsorship commitment is a monthly gift of $38.00 which supports Allisson Milena, age 11, in Equador. In addition to this child sponsored by the church, as of May 2019, 14 of our church members became sponsors of a child. The children supported by Compassion sponsors are ages 1-18, and they receive a caring and safe Christian environment to grow in self-confidence and social skills; the opportunity to hear the gospel and learn about Jesus; educational opportunities and mentoring; health care; hygiene training; supplementary food if necessary; and personal attention and love.
During November Darcy will be leading the Sunday School children in filling Thanksgiving baskets with foods for their Thanksgiving dinner for our families in need in Lebanon. We will have the opportunity to contribute so that we can share our blessings with our neighbors.
During the month of November we will join in the Franklin Graham Shoe Box Ministry. This mission is organized by Deb Cowger and the goal is to send as many boxes as we can to children in need around the world. This may be the only gift they receive. So, all are invited to join in this ministry, so that these children will know our love.
Secret Santa Tree
Soon Darcy Battye will put up our Christmas giving tree. There will be tags on the tree denoting the amount of the gift. We can select a tag or tags and buy gift cards of that amount to place back on the tree. The children will be able to select a gift of their choice. Let's all join in this effort to share our love this Christmas time.
